Perry H. Harris, 77, of Oakhurst, Ocean Township, died peacefully Monday, August 6, 2012 at home.

He was born in Philadelphia and lived in Long Branch before moving to Oakhurst in 1970. He was a former member of Congregation B'nai Shalom in Long Branch and retired from the US Army as a Master Sergeant in 1994.

He was a 5th grade teacher at Frank Antonides School in West Long Branch for 34 years before retiring. He received his undergraduate from Newark State College (now Kean University) and his graduate from Monmouth University in West Long Branch. He loved his students and created a scholarship fund in science. He was also a life member of the NJEA. He was a avid member of the Atlantic Club in Manasquan.

He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Anna Harris.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Owens Harris; daughters, Joni Dethlefsen of Basking Ridge and Shelley Harris of Howell and 2 grandsons, Brian and Kevin.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10 am until his funeral service at 12 noon Wednesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Entombment will follow at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com for condolences
