The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Charles Valentino can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

John Wells

Those who knew “The Number One Sports Fan” called him by different names, Valentino, Charlie, Tuna or Chaa Lay. Growing up as a youth player I watched Charlie on a great team of former top players from around the state of NJ. Later when I was in high school he was my JV coach for Baseball. It was without a doubt by far my favorite year of baseball ever. One day while coaching third base when we were beating a team pretty good I walked up to him and took invisible pen ink and squirted it on his uniform. If looks could kill, within seconds it was gone and so was the patent Charlie look. When I started coaching a group of players who too had all played pro ball I asked Charlie to help coach. He enjoyed being a part of the team and his love for baseball showed every time he was on the field. He grew into one of my best friends and spent many road trips with the big tuna sharing baseball stories. It was not uncommon to see him at various high school sporting events around the state. He was actually voted 1st Team All Super Fan in the Jersey Shore Football League one year, a true honor. I know that I will think about him every day and miss his phone calls for advice or just to talk. When you speak of a wing man, Charlie was the best. I will dearly miss you and know you have been a big part of my life. John Wells
