Dorothy Kenigsberg Halpern, 93, a former teacher, died Jan. 25 at Kaplan House Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston in Danvers, Massachusetts after a long illness.



Mrs. Halpern was born in Connecticut, raised in the Bronx, New York, and lived in Long Branch for 55 years. In 2004, she and her husband moved to Peabody, Massachusetts.



She retired from the Eatontown Public School System in the mid-1980s after about 25 years of teaching elementary school. She also served as a Girl Scout leader. She held a bachelor's degree from Hunter College in New York and a master's degree in education from Kean University in Union, NJ. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively.



She was predeceased by her parents, Isidor and Rose Kenigsberg, and her brother, Samuel Kenigsberg.



She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Arnold L. Halpern of Peabody, Massachusetts; three children and their spouses, Gail Marcus and her husband, Michael, of Cabin John, Maryland, Barton Halpern and his wife, Leslie, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Kenneth Halpern and his wife, Diane, of Newton, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Jason Halpern and his wife, Rebecca, Miles Halpern and his wife, Khris, and Ross Halpern; and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Eli Halpern.



Services will be held Sunday, January 29, at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, at 12:30 pm, and internment will be at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.
