Tony Pontecorvo, Jr., Pop, 77, of Oakhurst, passed away Wednesday at home with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Long Branch and lived in Deal before moving to Oakhurst 49 years ago.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved sports, most of all thoroughbred racing as an astute handicapper. He started out working at his father's business, American Food and Liquors in Deal. He then became a framing carpenter and then a machinist at CTC in Neptune retiring at age 62. After retirement, he worked with his sons at Delicious Bagels in Point Pleasant and in Wanamassa.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Eva Pontecorvo.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Florence Wade Pontecorvo; sons, Tony Pontecorvo III of Brick and R. Wade Pontecorvo of Oakhurst; sister, May G. Wooley of Haddonfield; brother, Alex M. Pontecorvo of Deal; grandchildren, R. Wade Pontecorvo, Jr., Leila Pontecorvo, Anthony and Gianna Pontecorvo and Phillip and Giovanna Russomano.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 3-7 pm Tuesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Church of the Ascension, Holy Name Society, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach, NJ 07720.
