Thomas E. Short, 83, of West Long Branch, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at Barnabas Health Hospice, Long Branch.

He was born in Newark and lived in Sayreville, Fords, Spring Lake Heights and Lakewood before moving to West Long Branch 7 years ago.

He was director of buildings and grounds at Union County College for 20 years before retiring in 1996. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War and a communicant of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ellen Knudsen, grandson, Russell Short, parents, Alfred and Katherine Short and a brother, William Short.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years Dolores Briante Short; his children, Kevin, Mark, Thomas, James, Edward, Christopher and David Short and Katherine Cuntala, Constance Yuhasz and Beth Ann Warren; brother, Daniel Short; 26 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am Saturday at St. Jerome Church, West Long Branch followed by burial at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch.
