Robert D. Ruland, Jr., 66, of Long Branch, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 17, 2011.



He was born in Manhattan, New York and lived in Edison. He moved to Monmouth Beach in 1972 where he raised his family and became very involved in the town that he grew to love.



He was a manager at Verizon retiring after 28 years of service. Bob spent his retirement years working at the Sailing Center in Monmouth Beach. He was a life member of the Monmouth Beach Fire Company and served as president from 1980 to 1984. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the First Presbyterian Church of Rumson.



Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Ruth Ruland and his brothers, John, Gary and Thomas Ruland.



Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Patricia Ward Ruland; children, Patricia Masica of West Long Branch, Dianne Feeny and her husband John of Fair Haven, Renee Toop and her husband Shane of West Long Branch and Robert Ruland and his wife Meagan of Long Branch; sister, Ruth Bachmann of Stroudsburg, PA; son-in-law, Joseph Masica of Monmouth Beach; sisters-in-law, Renate Ruland of Forked River, Christine Ruland of Cliffwood Beach, Doreen Tewksbury of Mt. Dora, FL and Karen Ward of Rumson; his best friends of 47 years, Tom and Essie Rasmussen of Staten Island and 9 grandchildren, Joseph, Kevin and Kyle Masica, Kaitlyn, John and Bryan Feeny, Evan Toop, and Dillon and Tyler Ruland and many nieces and nephews.



Bob enjoyed spending time on the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers. Growing up he spent many years on “Starvation Island” with his beloved family.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch with services commencing at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Monmouth Beach Fire Department, Monmouth Beach, NJ 07750.
