Robert Bates, 76, of Long Branch, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

He was born in Franklin, Nebraska and lived in Montrose, CO before moving to Long Branch in 1961

He was a machine operator for Dart Industries in Eatontown before retiring

He was a member of the Elks, VFW, LBCC and St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Long Branch. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Predeceased by his wife, Patricia Dumas Bates on December, 28, 2010, his parents, Benjamin and Ora Bates and his step-father Benjamin Terrell, his 11 brothers and sisters; his father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Jennie Dumas and his brother-in-law, Raymond Dumas, Jr.

Surviving are his children, Gina Marie and her husband Jon Faine, Robert Bates, Jr. and Jodi and her husband Mark Weyhknecht all of Long Branch and 2 grandsons, Mark, Jr. and James Weyhknecht, brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Kathleen Dumas and Mary and Howard Kingsley and 2 nieces, Danielle and Kristen and his 7 brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5-8 pm Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral service 10 am Friday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Broadway, Long Branch. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, Broadway, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
