Paul D. Sommers, Jr., 77, of Brick Township, formerly of Oceanport, died Friday December 16, 2011 at Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick.

He was born in Long Branch and attended Oceanport Elementary School and graduated from Long Branch High School in 1953.

He served in the US Army and was an exempt member of the Oceanport Fire Department where he volunteered for 20 years. He was an avid photographer and donated his time to many churches in the area of taking photographs of events. He was a big believer of the computer and owned one of the first computers. He was a member of the Painters Union Local 694 in Neptune and worked most of his life with his father and brothers at Paul Sommers and Son in Oceanport before retiring in 1996.

He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Mary Gross Sommers.

Surviving are his children, Paul Sommers III, Laura Black, Sheryl and Rich Moreto and Michele and David Lewandowski; brother and sisters-in-law, Clement and Lois Sommers, Richard Sommers and Wayne and Zenka Sommers and 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Jean Peterson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Monday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral service 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home
