Mario “Al” DiLorenzo, 90, of Manchester Township, died Thursday, August 9, 2012, with his wife by his side at Barnabas Health Hospice, Long Branch.



He was born in Castellabate, Province of Salerno, Italy on Oct 18, 1921, the son of Joseph and Estella DiLorenzo. He lived in West New York, Jersey City and Midland Park before moving to Manchester 25 years ago.



Mario was a mechanical design engineer for 29 years at Gibbs & Cox in New York City, where he helped design warships for the US Navy. He later worked for Burns & Roe in Oradell, NJ for 15 years, where he traveled throughout the United States and Europe to help design nuclear power plants.



He was known for his beautiful gardening, which was enjoyed by family and friends throughout his community.



Mario was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Augie, Dominick, Angela Sciubba, Sophia Trunciletto and Carmella Rosica.



Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine Monfiletto DiLorenzo; his son, Paul M. DiLorenzo, MD and his wife Cara; daughter, Dr. Christine and her husband James Fusco; his beloved grandchildren, Jacqueline, Olivia, Alexis and Rocco DiLorenzo and Larson Fusco; great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Monday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 am Tuesday at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
