Kenneth L. Herberg, 88, of Brick, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was born in Long Branch and lived in Oakhurst, Ocean Township and Hobe Sound, FL before moving to Brick 13 years ago.
He was a construction foreman for Thomas Proctor Company in Long Branch for 40 years before retiring in 1981. He helped build the jettys along the oceanfront and the seawall in Monmouth Beach and Sea Bright. He loved fishing, playing cards and Atlantic City and anything to do with his grandchildren. He was so proud of their accomplishments.. He also kept busy at Pleasure Bay Yacht Club in Oceanport after his retirement. He was an Army veteran of WW II and received the Bronze Star.
He was a 50 year member of Navesink Lodge #9 F&AM, Red Bank, a 54 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Oakhurst, American Legion Post 0411, West Long Branch and VFW Post 210 Hobe Sound, FL.
Mr. Herberg was predeceased by his wife, Delores Apostolacus Herberg in 1976, his parents, Harry and Marie Lankenau Herberg, his brothers, Harold, Lester, William, Harry and J. Herbert Herberg and sisters, Helen Green and Marie Terry.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene Drane Herberg; daughters, Kendra and her husband Mark Wilson of Oakhurst and Cindie and her husband George Sariotis of Oakhurst and 3 grandchildren, Catharine Gacos and Gregory and Christopher Sariotis and his sister, Marilyn Herberg of Brick

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral service 10 am Friday at the funeral home followed by burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Dr. John D. Blair Scholarship Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 103 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ 07755.
