John L. Kull, Age 82 of Eatontown (formerly of Oceanport), passed Tuesday, May 07, 2013 at the Jersey Shore Rehabilitation Center in Eatontown. Born in Irvington, NJ, he was a resident of Oceanport for over 35 years. He served his country in the United States Navy where he received an Honorable Discharge. He was the owner of Kull's News Service and retired in 2000. John was an avid sailor and competed in the Olympic trials as a member of Monmouth Boat Club. Besides sailing, he was found on the water either crabbing or fishing. He spent many hours on the Shrewsbury River teaching his children, and their friends the nuances of the water, in his beloved boat the Crabbin' Crate. He was a member of the Oceanport First Aid Squad and one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians. He was preceded in death by his wife Lea Cabeen Kull Burkhard and his son, John A. Kull. Surviving are his daughter Laura Kull and partner Bernadette Hauck, daughter Elizabeth Walterson, son Matthew Kull and five grandchildren. A private family service will be held.
