John DiOrio, 88, of Oakhurst, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, December 30, 2011.



John was born in Newark in 1923, where he lived until 1956 when he moved to Oakhurst with his wife, Elizabeth. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John was a proud United States Navy veteran who served in WWII. He was cited for his outstanding performance of duty in action during the assault on the Normandy Coast of France. He served in all three theatres of the war and received multiple medals and citations for his service.
John was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Magdalina Cecero-DiOrio, step-mother, Elizabeth DiOrio, wife, Elizabeth DiOrio and brother, Joseph DiOrio.



Surviving are his brother, Michael DiOrio of Alabama; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Ruth DiOrio of Oakhurst; grandchildren, Erica, Kristina, Thomas and Jonathan DiOrio; great-grandchildren, Giavona, Anthony, Noah, Dominic, Dylan, Riley and Kenzie; his pup, Otis; and loved ones, Josh Bard, Alyssa Smentkowski, Nicole DiOrio, Ryan Tomaine, Vincent D'Esposito and Bryan Tidd.



We would like to thank the caregivers at Imperial Healthcare of Neptune for providing him with care and comfort.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 12 pm to 2 pm on Saturday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Imperial Healthcare, 919 Green Grove Road, Neptune, NJ 07753. RIP Grandpa “I did it my way.”
