John A. Christopulos, 81, of Wayside passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday May 17th. He was born on February 4, 1930 in Lincoln, NE to Angelo and Nota Christopulos. As a young boy he attended Wentworth Military Academy where he excelled in football and achieved golden glove status in boxing. He attended University of Nebraska and earned a degree in Zoology. He left school to serve as a lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War for two years. Upon returning from the war he went on to earn a BS in Chemical Engineering.

John met the love of his life Lou Demos at the tender age of 6, they married 20 years later. After accepting a job with DuPont in 1957, he and his new bride moved to Red Bank, NJ. They became active members at St. George Greek Orthodox in Asbury Park where John sang in the choir, served on the parish council, and assisted as a youth advisor. His talents were not limited to the church; he also supported the local community by coaching various girls and boys teams. John was employed by the US Government where he was credited with several patens in the research and development of lithium batteries and other power sources. He retired after 35 years and went on to work part-time for six years at Variety Growers in Neptune.

The youngest of eleven children, John was predeceased by six sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Lou Demos Christopulos, their seven children, Douglas and Catherine Fight, Ted and Anne Pappayliou, Evan and Dinara Christopulos, Paul and Karen Christopulos, John and Beth McDermott, Matthew and Colleen Christopulos, and Jim and Julie Generelli; their thirteen grandchildren, Jonathan and Joseph Fight, Steven and John Christopulos, Diane, Chris, and Nick Pappayliou, John McDermott III, Hope, Paul, and Sean Christopulos, and Nicole and Kate Generelli, and his brother George Christy in St. Louis, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 19 at Fiore Funeral Home in Oakhurst. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, May 20th, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Asbury Park. Burial will follow at St. George's Cemetery, Neptune.
