Jennie M. Dumas, 91, of Long Branch, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at home.
She was born in Calabria, Italy and came to Long Branch at 6 months where she lived all of her life.
She was a communicant of the Christ the King Parish, Long Branch, a member of the Long Branch Community Center, the ladies auxiliary of the Long Branch Elks and was Woman of the Year in 1986 where she was one of the first women to join the Elks; member of Long Branch Chapter of Deborah, the Long Branch active seniors and a member of the 49's circle at St. Luke Methodist Church, Long Branch. She was very active at the Elks where she could be found waitressing, setting up, serving and cleaning every Friday night. She retired as a seamstress.
Predeceased by her husband, Raymond Dumas, Sr. in 2003, whom she married in 1939; her son, Raymond Dumas, Jr. in 1976 and her daughter, Patricia Bates in December 2010; her parents, Vincent and Mary Arabia and her step-father Steven; her sisters, Philomena and Catherine and her brothers, Sam and Patsy Arabia.
Surviving are her son, Richard and his wife Kathleen Dumas of Summerfield, NC; daughter-in-law, Mary Kingsley and her husband Howard of Long Branch; son-in-law, Robert Bates who care for her until her death for over 7 years; grandchildren,Gina Marie Faine and her husband Jon, Robert Bates, Jr. and Jodi Weyhknecht and her husband Mark all of Long Branch; great-grandchildren, Mark Jr. and James Weyhknecht and a great-granddaughter, Kylee Weaver; she also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 3-6 pm Tuesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral 8:30 am Wednesday from the funeral home followed by a 9:30 am Funeral Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Long Branch. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
