Janet Murphy, 78, of Monmouth Beach, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at home.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Brooklyn, Valley Stream, NY and Eatontown before moving to Monmouth Beach 6 months ago.

She was a secretary for the Department of Probation for Nassau County before retiring 10 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea's Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown and Holy Name of Mary Church in Valley Stream, NY.

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Catherine Gilbride and her 8 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her husband of 44 years, James J. Murphy; sons, James G. and his wife Maria Murphy of Monmouth Beach and Brian J. and his wife Karen Murphy of Port Washington, NY; brother, Jack Gilbride and sister, Ruth Gilbride both of Brooklyn; and 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Christian, Aidan and Ryan Murphy. She was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral 8:30 am Friday from the funeral home followed by at 10 am Funeral Mass at the Roman Catholic Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
