Obituary for Frederick V. Fittanto

Frederick Vito Fittanto 81, passed away peacefully at Monmouth Medical Center Long Branch on Friday, February 20, 2015 after a long courageous battle with kidney disease. Born in New York City, Fred lived in the Bronx before moving to Bayonne. He later lived in Neptune City and in Winter Haven and Lake Wales, FL. Fred was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 36 years, Carmela (nee Russo), and his brother, Louis and his sister-in-law, Catharine (nee Caraccio). He is survived by his daughters, Rose Fittanto & Dr. Frances Fittanto-Fiore and her husband David. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Rocco Russo and his wife Diane and his sister-in-law Rosemarie. He is also survived by his nieces, Deborah, Joan, Maria & Rosanna and her husband Ricky and nephews, John & Florindo and his wife Renee, as well as his Godchild, Josephine. He is also survived by his son-in-law’s family, Dr. Rosemary Fiore, Dr. Paul Solitti and their daughter Amy with whom he spent many happy holidays in recent years. Also surviving Fred is the extended Caraccio family with whom he enjoyed many happy family gatherings. He is also survived by his special friend, Dorothea McCray. Fred proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. With dedication, he worked in the corrugated box industry and upon retirement spent many happy years living in Florida with his second wife, Jan. Fred was a strong man of faith and he valued his family and his friends. He was very good at helping and encouraging others and offering his prayers for their concerns. Whenever possible, he loved to make people smile and laugh. He was a member of a senior performing arts group in Winter Haven, FL and enjoyed bringing his comedy to residents of nursing homes. As a member of Gideons International, he enjoyed visiting nursing homes and hospitals to distribute bibles. He was also a member of both the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Bayonne.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 7-9 pm Friday at Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St Catherine’s Church in Spring Lake on Saturday, February 28 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Atlantic View Cemetery.
