Eugene (Gene) Krug, Ph.D., 53, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Jersey Shore Medical Center after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer. Gene was born in New Brunswick, NJ to Edward and Regina Krug and spent his early childhood in South River. He lived in several different parts of the country before returning to NJ and attending Rutgers University, earning a Ph.D. in Materials Science in 1992. He was employed by Certech, Inc. in Wood-Ridge, NJ, for 11 years, attaining the position of Technical Director. In 2002, he founded his own ceramic injection molding company, Springboard CIM, Inc., working as a contractor for the U.S. Army and several other major firms. In 2004, he moved his company to Pittsfield, MA before reestablishing himself in 2012 in the place he loved most, the Jersey Shore. Gene was known for his independent spirit, his love of the outdoors, and his fondness of animals, especially his cherished dog, Olivia. Never one to back away from a challenge, he always sought out the most demanding projects he could find. Gene developed many important innovations in his field, but nothing made him more proud than being a Dad to the three sons he loved with all his heart.
He was predeceased by his father, Edward Krug in 1972 and his mother, Regina Bartkowiak Krug in 2011. He is survived by his loving companion of 13 years, Kathleen Clarke of Oakhurst; his three sons, Daniel, Steven, and Michael Krug of Oakhurst; his brothers, Russell Krug of CA and Edward Krug (Pat) of IL; his sister, Joan Koutsoudakis of NJ; his former wife and friend, Sandra Krug of Oakhurst; his father-in-law, John Clarke of FL; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Clarke and her son Dylan Monroe of FL; his cousins, Craig Pesetsky and his companion Lorraine Martin of DE; Janice Plante (Rick) of NJ; Susan Elsner of NC, Warren Pesetsky (Barb) of SC, and Bruce Pesetsky (Gail) of FL. His nieces, Lisa Krug of NY and Cheryl Koutsoudakis of NJ; his nephew Michael Koutsoudakis and his wife, Mandy Kujoory of NJ. In addition, he is survived by many other family members and friends who have loved and supported him throughout his life and his illness.
