Obituary for Elizabeth J. MacKenzie

Elizabeth J. MacKenzie, 87, of West Long Branch, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at home.
If you are lucky in your life, you will meet a person who embodies grace, courage and compassion. If you’re very lucky, this person will also teach you to live with zest and enthusiasm and to love so deeply that if it were your last day on earth, you would have no regrets. The family and friends of Elizabeth MacKenzie were very, very lucky. For 87 years, they lived in the warm glow of her spirit without ever a question of how much she cared for them. She will be remembered for her famous macaroni and cheese, love of traveling, and fondness for a good Manhattan-with two cherries. Most importantly, however, she will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her great big hugs, and how when she told you she loved you, she did it with such spirit it was also as if the love was bursting from her. Thank you, Elizabeth, for being our guiding light while you were here with us and our guardian angel from now on.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Malone in 1976, her son, Timothy Malone in 2010; her parents, Howard and Elizabeth Foran; sister, Mary Dever and brother, Howard Foran.
Surviving are her husband, Alex; 3 daughters, Barbara McCarthy of Gastonia, NC, Laura Malone of Interlaken and Carol and her husband Jim Giardino of West Long Branch, daughter-in-law, Christine Malone; 8 grandchildren, Lindsay, Sean, Mollie, Samantha, Colin, Julia, Ava and Mara and 3 great-grandchildren, Max, Janie and Austin.
She was a communicant of Christ the King Parish (Holy Trinity Church) in Long Branch.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 am Thursday at Holy Trinity Church in Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
