Obituary for Edward T McHale

Edward "Ed" Thomas McHale Sr., 78, of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was born in Kingston, NY and moved to Asbury Park as a young man. He attended Asbury Park High School where he received his varsity letter in cross country and later attended Florida State University. He spent most of his life living on the Jersey Shore where he devoted his time to raising his children with his wife, Jean. Ed worked in sales and was a marketing manager for the Simmons Bedding Co. for over 20 years and later opened his own bedding store in Brick, NJ before retiring in 2005. Ed was a devoted family man who loved the Asbury Park/Ocean area. He made friends everywhere he went with his charming personality, sense of humor, and Irish gift for storytelling. He cherished his time with his family, watching his beloved Yankees, and fishing. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard Sr. and Mary McHale and his brother, Bernard McHale Jr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean McHale (Redding) and his children, Edward T. McHale Jr. of South Hampton, John P. McHale of Toms River and Kelly A. Rasmussen (McHale) of Ocean Twp.; one sister, Carole Meseroll of Toms River; one brother, Richard McHale of Maryland, as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be held for family from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Ed's memory to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate
