Edward V. Keegan, 82, of Seaside Park, formerly of Deal Park, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Barnabas Health Hospice in Long Branch.
He was born in Jersey City to the late Ella and Dr. Thomas Keegan. Ed graduated from St. Rose High School in Belmar in 1949, then joined the US Navy and served as a Corpsman. He graduated from McAllister School of Mortuary Science and became a New Jersey licensed funeral director. Ed was Postmaster of Deal until his retirement in 1977. He was a communicant of head usher at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, West End, Long Branch.
Ed loved living in Seaside Park and was happiest when his house was filled with family and friends. Ed was a member of the Toms River Seaport Society, the Ocean County Historical Society, the Ocean Township Historical Society and the Friends of Island Beach State Park. He will be lovingly remembered for his large personality and even bigger heart.
Ed was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Marie Joyce Mehok Keegan in 2009.
Surviving are his children, Kathleen Kellers of Brielle, Willian J. Keegan of Ocean and Marie J. van Lummel of Granger, IN; sisters, Marie Alley and Pat Ferren; 5 grandchildren, Timothy R. Kellers, Jr., Jaye Kellers, Andrew Kellers, Christiaan van Lummel and Connor van Lummel and a lifelong friend, Lee V. Rokeach.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Mass on Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. Michael's Church, Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Michael's Scholarship Fund, 800 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740 or to Barnabas Health Hospice, 300 Second Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
