Obituary for Donald R. Curtis

Donald R. Curtis, 80 of Oakhurst entered into eternal life on February 5, 2015 at home. Donald was born in Elizabeth, NJ. He graduated from Roselle Park High School and later Cornell University. He also served two years with the United States Marine Corps. Donald worked in Labor relations for General Cable Corp., served as V.P. of Human Resources for Pirelli Cable Corporation. He ended his career as director of Human Resources for IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic s Engineer). Donald was an active parishioner lector and pastoral council member at St. Jerome’s in West Long Branch. Donald and his wife Marie served as diocesan Pre Cana ministers for 40 years. He was an active member of the League of Women Voters in 1975, when men were first invited to join the congregation. He served on the League’s state board; he had been president of the Ocean Township and was the treasurer of both township and committee leagues, at the time of his death. He also served 25 years on the Human Services Council and spent another 12 years leading the Twp. of Ocean Juvenile Conference Committee and was a member at Civilian Emergency response team. Serving are his wife of almost 58 years Marie, four children; Michelle Hunt, Donna Curtis, Dan Backrach, Dave Curtis, Kevin Curtis, and his wife Dawn. His great children include, Danielle, Annie, and Sean Curtis, Andrew and Madison Hunt, and Jack Bachrach.
Viewing will be on Monday from 2-4, 7-9 pm at the Fiore Funeral Home (236 Monmouth road, Oakhurst) Funeral mass will be held Tuesday at St. Jerome (254 Wall Street West Long Branch, NJ) 07764 at 10:30 am followed by burial at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport NJ.
