David C. Chachko 56, of Oceanport on July 26th at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, NJ, David grew up in Hazlet and was a graduate of Raritan High School and Bridgeport University. He started his career in film and commercial production and edited the ZZ Top Video “Legs” which won the first MTV award in 1984 for Best Group Video. He changed careers in 1988 to be closer to his sons and was owner of Lastella's Deli and Catering in Marlboro. He then went on to internet and data marketing sales and was most recently with V12 Group in Red Bank.
From high school on, he played bass in bands including English Creek Road, Chazz and Mr. Mustard-a Beatles tribute band. He was a coach of both Oceanport Recreational and Red Bank Catholic American Legion Baseball teams. David was the first president of the Oceanport Sports Foundation. His passions in life were his three boys, The Beatles, Jeff Beck and baseball (especially the Yankees).
He was predeceased in March 2012 by his father Edward Chachko. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Lastella; his 3 sons and daughters-in-law Brett and YounJoo, Sanbon, South Korea, Dennis and Katie, Lumberton, and Michael, at home; his future granddaughter Sandara due this October; his mother, Joanne Chachko; his brothers and sisters-in-law Carl Chachko, Paul and Kim Chachko and Jonathan and Donna Chachko; his mother and father-in-law Frank and Doris Lastella; his brothers and sisters-in-law Frank and Tami Lastella, John and Diana Lastella, James and Stacey Lastella and Karen Lastella and Leigh Harris; his four nieces and eight nephews; his godson Patrick; and his close friends including Jim, Todd, Jack, Pastor Chuck, Kevin and the Hazlet gang.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4pm and 7-9pm Sunday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral service will be on Monday at 10:30am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of David may be made to the Oceanport First Aid Squad or the Oceanport Sports Foundation. The family would like to thank the Oceanport First Aid Squad, and the many caring doctors, nurses and aides at Monmouth Medical Center who took care of David this past month.
