Alfred “Al” Moretti, 77, of Oakhurst, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He grew up in East Orange and raised his family in Newark, before moving to Oakhurst in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in West End, Long Branch and served in the Army. He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep and Seton Hall University with a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Education.

Al retired in 1995 after 30 years as a science teacher at Mt. Pleasant Middle School in Livingston, where he also coached wrestling. He was also a self-employed mason. He was an avid fisherman and loved going out on his boat. Al was a member of the Italian American Association of the Township of Ocean, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4504 in Union and a former Parish Council president, Cub Scout leader and intramural sports coach at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church and School in Maplewood.

He was predeceased by his parents, Silvio and Jane Araneo Moretti.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann Moretti; 4 children, Christopher and his wife Mary, Michael and his wife Ani, Veronica and her husband Patrick Reardon and Alan and his wife Katherine; sister, Sylvia Barrasso; dear cousin, Jane Senior; 9 grandchildren, Erin, Michael, Anthony, Samantha, Nicole, Christopher, Natalie, Connor and Quinn and 2 great-grandchildren, Brinley and Ainsley.

Throughout his life, Al had alot of friends. Much love and thanks to “All the Guys”; you know who you are.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 pm Monday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst. Funeral Mass 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Michael's Church in West End, Long Branch.
