Florence S. Danielson, 90, of Ocean Township, died on March 29 at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls where she had resided for the past seven years.

Florence was born and raised in Oakhurst. She graduated from the Oakhurst Grammar School and Asbury Park High School, Class of 1942. After high school, she joined the war effort and worked at Fort Monmouth, Camp Evans in Wall Township and, eventually, Washington, D.C.

She traveled to Fort Hood, Texas, to marry the love of her life, Russell, on December 9, 1943. After the war, they came home to settle in Oakhurst where they raised their two sons, Ron and Randy.

After her boys were in school, she went to work for the Ocean Township Board of Education, serving as secretary to the principal at the Oakhurst and then the Wayside School. Throughout her long career, she was recognized for her goodness, kindness, and compassion for so many children, parents, teachers, and others with whom she had contact as well as for her work ethic and her work skills. She loved her work and served six school principals during her 45 year career and did not retire until she was 76 years old.

She was a lifelong active and devoted member of The First United Methodist Church of Oakhurst. She served the church faithfully in many capacities, including as treasurer for 25 years and as a member of the United Methodist Women and the Lydia Circle.

Florence was predeceased by her parents, Florence and George Garnier, her husband of 63 years, Russell Danielson, in 2007, and her daughter-in-law, Gail Danielson, in 2010. She is survived by her two sons, Ronald Danielson, Rand Danielson and his partner Aldo Suarez; and her grandsons Jeffrey and Scott Danielson, all of Ocean Township.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 1, 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. All are invited to attend the funeral service at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 2, at The First United Methodist Church, 103 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, 07755. Interment will be private.
