Obituary for Sanita J "Chickie" Camassa

Sanita J. “Chickie” Camassa, 86, of West Long Branch, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at home.
She was born and grew up in Long Branch and lived in Oceanport before moving to West Long Branch 10 years ago.

She retired as City Clerk from the City of Long Branch and received the ‘Key to the City’ at her retirement. She also owned Sanita’s Fashions before retiring in 1985. Chickie was a graduate and valedictorian of her class at Star of the Sea Academy and a lifetime communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church (Christ the King Parish) in Long Branch. Chickie loved fashion, playing the piano, decorating and her dog, Coco.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Susan DeNucci Camassa; brothers and sister-in-law, Frank and Helen Camassa and Anthony Camassa and her 2 caring aunts, Rose and Mary DeNucci.

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Margaret Camassa of Long Branch; her nieces and nephews, Susan and John Gizzi of West Long Branch, Patti and Louis Manzi of Oceanport, Frank and Jeanne Camassa of West Long Branch, John and Cathryn Camassa of Freehold and Jay Camassa of Eatontown; and her great nephews and her great nieces, Michael Gizzi, Christopher Manzi, Frank III, Anthony, Michael, Christina and Victoria Camassa.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10 am until 10:45 am Tuesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Long Branch. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the SPCA, Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
