Obituary for Walter L. Pawlukanis
Walter L. Pawlukanis, 84, of Oakhurst, Ocean Township, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 30, 2022. Walter was born July 10, 1937 in Greenwood PA and grew up in Oneonta, NY. He graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 and taught Industrial Arts at Douglas MacArthur High School in Levittown, Long Island. After earning a Master of Science in Education degree from Hofstra University, he moved his young family to Oakhurst and took a position as a Guidance Counselor at Manasquan High School in 1967. He retired from Manasquan in June 1998 and began enjoying time spent at his cabin in upstate New York. He was a long-time member of the Monmouth Model Airplane Club and the Jersey Shore Radio Control Club. He taught Hunter Education Safety for The State of New Jersey for 20+ years.
He is predeceased by his mother, Mildred B. Holmes, his father, Walter L. Pawlukanis, and his brother, Joseph Palakanis.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Pawlukanis; his children, daughter Theresa Goodwin and her husband David, son Walter “Marty” Pawlukanis and his wife Tracy, son Damian Pawlukanis and his wife Laura, and daughter Amy Gondek and her husband Joseph; grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Haley, Megan, JT, Owen, Tessa, and great-granddaughter, Michala.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4-7 pm on Thursday at Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst. Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am on Friday at Saint Jerome Roman Catholic Church, 254 Wall Street, West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Oakhurst First Aid Squad, 72 Larkin Place, Oakhurst, NJ 07755 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
