Obituary for Terrence J Bolan

Terrence (Terry) J. Bolan, cherished husband, father, brother, brother in law and uncle passed away into eternal life at home surrounded by his loving family. July 1, 2022. Terry, born in Orange, NJ. 1960 had fond memories of growing up in Sea Girt and Allenhurst, NJ and attended Saint Catherine’s and St. Mary’s Elementary School. He graduated St. Rose High School, class of 1978. Terry was a cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, 1982 where he also enjoyed distinguished military status as a member of the ROTC. Terry went on to obtain his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest School of Law in 1986. Terry led a distinguished career, the last quarter century as one of the founding partners of Bolan Jahnsen Dacey in Shrewsbury. While most members of his profession view the word “lawyer” as a noun, Terry viewed lawyer as a verb and he was renowned for his uncommon intellect and profoundly common touch. He was admitted to the Jersey State Bar, Federal District Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He will be greatly missed by the bench and the bar. Terry was an elected Commissioner of Allenhurst from 2007 to 2022. One of Terry’s wishes to refurbish Allenhurst Park with a walkway, exercise stations and more was accomplished with the help of the Mayor and staff of Allenhurst Borough. Some residents of Allenhurst attending the holiday town gatherings, or the July fundraising run may remember Terry on the microphone making people smile with his special brand of humor. Terry coached cross country and track at St. Mary’s Elementary and St. James Elementary schools where he got to use a toned down version of his old-school military training. “Drop and give me 20”. He made it a goal for himself to run a marathon by age 50 and continued to run several by age 55 with many 5Ks in between. As proud alumnus of St. Rose, Terry kept in touch with classmates and enjoyed being involved with informal reunions. Terry felt lucky to make and keep so many friends, as he leaves a great many in the academic, social, and athletic circles he graced with his presence. Terry was blessed with the pleasing aesthetics of his mother, Mary Jane, and the dead-pan delivery of his father, Whiting Peter. He was predeceased by his parents and father-in law, James E. Heine. He is survived by his wife Eileen, and his three daughters, Mary, Clare, and Shannon Bolan; his brother Peter Bolan (Blaise), four sisters, Mary Jo Pier (Ricky), Ginger Koar (Bob), Sally Selden (Robert), and Betty Ann Gilman (Richard); mother-in-law Rosemary Heine, sisters-in-law Mary Jean Umbarger (Dave), Kathy Marmora (John), Jimmy Heine (Kathleen), Sharon Butler-O’Donnell (John), Susan Douglas (Kenny), Michele Hewson (Chris), and 33 nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Saturday July 9, 2022. St. Michael's Church 800 Ocean Ave West End, NJ. 07740. A Celebration of life will take place later this summer at Allenhurst Beach. Date and time to be announced.
