Obituary for Syvilla Davies

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Syvilla Davies, on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Syvilla passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Syvilla was born in Jersey City on September 13, 1938 to Gerard and Syvilla Thoden. As a young girl she moved with her parents to Oakhurst where she attended the Oakhurst School. She then attended Asbury Park High School where she fell in love with her high school sweetheart Fred Davies. They met as members of the marching band where he played the drums and she played the glockenspiel. She graduated in the class of 1956 followed by earning a degree in education in 1960 from Monmouth University. Fred and Syvilla were married on June 12, 1960.
Syvilla taught kindergarten at the Wanamassa school prior to settling down to raise her three children in West Long Branch. Her life then was everything she had ever wanted. Days filled with Little League games and dance lessons, making a great dinner every night followed by studying for tests and maybe a little TV. Every summer was spent all together at Takanassee Beach club where she could be found swimming in the ocean with her white bathing cap or enjoying a delicious hot dog from the Tak Snack Shack. Life was good!
After Takanssee closed, Syvilla enjoyed her summers at the Breakwater Beach Club with her daughter and granddaughters. The beach was always her favorite place in addition to her love for her family and her beloved pets. She also loved listening to popular music and watching the Mets with her husband Fred. There was no one as kind, sweet, and caring as Syvilla.
Syvilla is survived by her husband of 62 years Fred Davies. Also surviving are her sons Jonathon and Gerard (Jerry) Davies and her daughter Melissa Bisbee, as well as her four granddaughters Anna, Jesse and Erin Bisbee and Madison Davies.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Syvilla Davies on Sunday January 29, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 at the First United Methodist Church located at 103 Monmouth Rd. Oakhurst, New Jersey 07755. We ask that you come to share your memories and enjoy light refreshments as we remember our Syvilla. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Syvilla’s name to the Monmouth County SPCA.
