Obituary for Salvatore "Sam" Straniere

Salvatore “Sam”Straniere, 86, a lifelong resident of Long Branch, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday,June 2, 2019.
He was a communicant of Christ the King Parish (Holy Trinity Church) in Long Branch and was a life member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), a 4th degree member for the Knights of Columbus and the Asbury Park Elks and Long Branch Elks.
Sam was a civilian police officer at Fort Monmouth for 25 years. He then was a self-employed roofer for many years before retiring. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Sam was predeceased by his son, Salvatore R. Straniere and a grandson, Charles Romano; his parents, Rocco and Mary Stranieri; sisters, Rose Latteri and Pauline Wishard and a brother, Joseph Stranieri.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Marie Nancy Simonelli Straniere; daughters, Mary Ann Romano and Gina Fiore; 2 sisters, Josephine Scataglia and Dianne Fierro; 6 grandchildren Holly Rosa, Melody Romano, Louis Fiore III, Christopher Fiore, Tiffany Fiore, Jessica Grasso, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4-7 pm Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 am Saturday at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Long Branch. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
