With both sons at her side and at peace in her heart, 96 year old Ruth
Decker Meserve passed away on April 17. Born May 30, 1924, in East
Stoudsburg PA, the second child of Mary Staples and Arthur Decker, she
was married to William A. Meserve in 1947.
Ruth graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor’s degree
in Mathematics and later received a Master Degree in Mathematics from
Stevens Institute of Technology. She was a devoted high school math
teacher and taught math in Asbury Park High School over 30 years and
later at Ocean Township High School from 1967 until retiring in 1990.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Asbury Park, NJ
where she served as a deaconess. Ruth also loved to travel and has visited
more than 35 countries around the world, including many in Europe, Asia,
and Africa. Ruth also enjoyed serving as a volunteer at Monmouth Medical
Center in Long Branch New Jersey for many years.
A life-long advocate of cultural understanding and world-wide education,
Ruth Meserve leaves her sons William A. Jr, and Larry (Betty),
granddaughter Marissa, and great granddaughters Katie and Karissa to
mourn her passing.
The funeral service will held at the Fiore Funeral Home in Oakhurst on
Friday April 23 at 2pm.
