Obituary for Milton F. Belford

Milton F. Belford, 86, of Tinton Falls, passed away on Sunday, January 8th, 2023. Milt was born in Union to Margaret and Abram Belford. He was the third of four boys and grew up in Roselle Park, where he excelled in several sports. In high school, he was the quarterback of the football team and the catcher of the baseball team, leading both teams to a Group II State Championship. He wrestled on a 13 and 2 team, and was runner-up in the Districts. In 1998, he was inducted into The Roselle Park High School Athletic Hall of Fame. After high school, he joined the US Navy and then went on to Newark State Teachers College, where he earned his Bachelor's degree and then his Master's degree at Monmouth University. He was a math teacher at Long Branch High School for 26 years and eventually became the Department Chairperson. He was also the Director of the Long Branch Adult School and Summer School, and he was founder of the Monmouth County Mathematics League. Milt also was the JV coach for baseball and basketball. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and grew the best tomatoes around.
He was predeceased by his three brothers, A.J., Joe and Dave. He was also predeceased by his infant daughter, Amy, in 1968.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine, of 61 years, his son, Timothy and his daughter, Alison. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Gabby, Chris and Amy DeVito ("Don't argue with your grandfather!").

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral service will be held at 10 am Friday at the funeral home followed by burial at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. Please omit flowers.
