Obituary for Maryellen Schmidt

Maryellen “Bonnie” Schmidt (nee: Barrett) (92) was born November 1st, 1931 and raised in Perth Amboy until she moved to Brick in 1974.
She had the honor of holding many titles in her family, which she was most proud of. Besides “Mom”, she was “Mommom” to her grandchildren, “Fairy Godmother” to her great grandchildren, and “Aunt Bonnie” to her nieces and nephews.  She believed and lived by the quote, “It’s better to give than receive”. She provided for her family and various charities in special ways throughout her life. She was also known for her storytelling and sense of humor, which put everyone on high alert every April Fool’s Day.
She loved ice cream, baking, craft shows, horse racing, doll collecting, listening to Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart, watching game shows, all things purple, shopping, playing board games, making crafts, and spending time with her family. Famous for her Christmas cookies and carrot cake, she always looked forward to her family being together for the holidays.
She was proud to be an employee of Ocean Medical Center for 25 years where she worked until she retired at the age of 80.
She was predeceased by her husband Hans in 1987, Parents John and Marie Barrett, brothers James Robert “Bobby” and John James “Sonny”, sisters Joan “Doan” Kelleman and Dolores “Lorrie” Hermann.
