Maryann J. Farry, 81, of Wanamassa, NJ, died Thursday, June 15, 2023, at home after a lengthy illness.  Maryann was a dedicated and energetic elementary school teacher in Ocean Township for over 35 years, retiring in 2001.  She loved teaching and her students.  She was also actively involved with the Ocean Township Historical Museum, volunteering as a docent and participating in many museum events and activities.  Maryann was a graduate of Wanamassa Grammar School and Asbury Park High School.  She earned her bachelor of arts in elementary education at Glassboro State College (Rowan University) and a master of arts from Newark State College (Kean University). Maryann was predeceased by her father, John Farry; her dear mother, Anna Henrietta Farry, for whom she provided loving care over many years; her aunt, Mary Esther Henrietta Sofield, and uncle, Clifford M. Sofield; and her cousin, Clifford M. Sofield, Jr., and his wife, Maureen.  She is survived by three cousins: George W. Sofield (his wife, Jeanne, and their children, George Jr., Kevin, and Clifford); Michael J. Sofield (his wife, Susan, and their children, Michael Jr. and Brian); and Dr. William L. Sofield (his wife, Barbara, and their children, Heather, Kristin, and Caitlin); and Clifford and Maureen’s daughter, Anne. The family expresses deepest gratitude to Miriam, Maryann’s caregiver of more than two years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Township of Ocean Historical Museum, P.O. Box 516, Oakhurst, NJ, 07755, or to a favorite charity.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 24 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s of the Assumption, 46 Richmond Ave., Deal.  Interment immediately following at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, 1100 W. Chicago Blvd., Sea Girt.
