Obituary for Marion Cornman

Marion Park Nilsen Cornman
COLTS NECK - Marion Park Nilsen Cornman, 96, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Born in Waverly, NY, she was a 60-year resident of Monmouth Beach having moved there in 1948. She graduated from New York University in 1948 with a degree in instrumental music, and she subsequently taught music in the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School and began the instrumental music program in the Monmouth Beach School in the 1960’s. She also was a substitute schoolteacher for local schools and taught private music lessons in her home for many years. She performed both instrumental and vocal music in local area churches and was a member of Jack Wyrtzen’s first brass quartet at the weekly “Word of Life” youth rallies at St. Nicholas Arena in New York City in the 1940’s. She enjoyed singing for many years in the annual Ocean Grove Choir Festival, and she was active in child evangelism, Pioneer Girls and as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oceanport.
She was predeceased by her husbands, John Howard Nilsen, in 1964, and A. Wesley Cornman, in 2009; her granddaughter, Faith Aurora Streeter in 2009 and her son, Nils Peter Nilsen in 2015. Surviving are two sisters, Marjorie Clark of Port Charlotte, FL, and Phyllis Douglass of Harrisburg, PA; three daughters and their husbands, Kathi (Gregory) Baxter of West Long Branch; Linda (Henry) Curry of Hope Mills, NC, and Gayle (Joseph) Streeter of Morrisville, VT; two sons, David Nilsen of Poultney, VT, and Paul (Cynthia) Cornman of Freehold, and a daughter-in-law, Janine Nilsen of North Clarendon, VT; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be greatly appreciated by her family to Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association earmarked for musical programs, 54 Pitman Avenue, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756.
