Obituary for Leonid Oleinik

Leonid Oleinik, 87, of Ocean Township, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

He was born in Slovyansk, Ukraine. He moved to the Unites States in 1949 living in Harlem, New York, Lakewood, Oakhurst, Long Branch and Eatontown before moving to Wanamassa 44 years ago.
Raised in the Russian Orthodox faith, he was most recently a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church (Mother of Mercy Parish) in Asbury Park. He graduated from Lakewood High School and graduated from Monmouth College in West Long Branch with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. In his earlier years he played tennis, soccer and loved to fish. He was a member of the German American Soccer League.
He was an aviation engineer at Fort Monmouth for 26 years before retiring in 2003. He served in the US Army.

He was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Nadia Oleinik; his brother, William Oleinik and nephew Michael Oleinik.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Flor; daughters, Patricia Spurlock and her husband Jonathan and Anna Oleinik; 2 grandsons, Coll and Elijah Spurlock and a nephew David Oleinik.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 pm Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 am Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Asbury Park. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Neptune.
