Obituary for Kenneth L Pickett Sr.

Kenneth Louis Pickett, 75, of Barnegat, passed away after a short, yet tough battle with pulmonary embolisms at Southern Ocean Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. After completing Matawan High School, where he was a Varsity Letter Linebacker, Ken was quick to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served as Master Sergeant, prior to retiring with full honors in 1979. While serving, Master Sergeant Kenneth L. Pickett was presented with a Commemorative Medal for his patriotic and dedicated service in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict. Ken also received The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, in 2001. Shortly thereafter, and with the “call to serve” still strong, Ken accepted a Government contractor position within Computer Sciences Corporation, now known as DXC Technology, where he proudly served for an additional 10 years prior to his acceptance in the Army’s Civilian Corps. Ken continued to serve his country for an additional 10 years in this capacity, as a Senior Acquisition Logistics Management Specialist with the Program Executive Office Missiles and Space (PEO M&S) and PEO Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors (PEO IEW&S). Ken started his civilian service at the United States Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey up and until their closure. In 1989, Ken secured his Associate’s Degree, in Applied Science from Brookdale Community College. In addition to countless performance awards throughout his civilian career, Ken received the prestigious Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in 2012. Ken enjoyed watching his grandchildren excel in their athletic and academic pursuits, rarely missing an event. Including this past April, where he was able to share in his grandson’s NFL draft announcement, intentionally held in New Jersey, to enable his family to participate. Family was everything to Ken and the void he has left, will never be filled. Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years Sharon (Percy) Pickett originally of Cliffwood; his Son Kenneth L. Pickett, Jr. and his wife Kasey (Irvin) Pickett, granddaughter Alexis Pickett and grandson Kenneth Pickett; his daughter Kelly Pickett  Corbett, husband Frederick, granddaughters: Katelyn, Kelsey, Carleigh and Great Granddaughter, Madilynn, Great Grandson, Aidan, Great Grandson Logan Loreaux and Great Granddaughter Maddison; and his daughter Jamie (Pickett) Yockin her husband Bob Yockin, granddaughter Allison (Yockin) Pollera and her husband Joseph Pollera; granddaughter Lauren (Snook) Kingery and her husband Skip Kingery; and grandson Ryan Snook. Ken is further survived by his sister Paricia Frate, sister-in-law Louise Pickett and Nephew Franklin Pickett. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm – 6:00pm on Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Buckley Funeral Home, 509 2nd Avenue, Asbury Park, New Jersey. Cremation and Repass will be private.
