Obituary for Kenneth Edward Kennedy

Kenneth Edward Kennedy, 73, of Ocean Township passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with oral cancer.
Ken was born on September 9, 1949, to Clare and Edward in Philadelphia. After Ken graduated from Ocean Township High school in 1967, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War – serving on the USS Patrick Henry and the USS Ray.
After serving six years in the Navy, Ken went on to serve in the Ocean Township Police Department from 1974 to 1999, where he retired as a Detective. Ken continued to serve his community as a Detective Sergeant with the Monmouth University Police Department. Ken went on to retire from the Monmouth University Police Department in 2014.
In 1984, Ken met the love of his life, Fran Meckler, through mutual friends. At the time of their marriage, Ken gained two additional parents, Stanley and Ann (“Bobbi”) Meckler, and a brother and sister Carri Meckler Silverberg and Bruce Silverberg. Ken and Fran went on to have two children, Daniel and Rebecca. Over time, they went on to add another daughter, Daniel’s wife Laura, and son, Rebecca’s fiancé Thomas.
In the last seven years, Ken developed his favorite lifetime hobby – spending time with best friends/grandchildren – James, Emma, and Ava. Ken also loved to spend his time watching the New York Yankees, gardening, golfing, collecting golf balls, making chili, telling stories, and studying his family’s lineage.
Ken was predeceased by his father, Edward; and his brother, Edward Kennedy Jr. Ken is survived by his wife: Fran; children: Daniel, Rebecca, Laura, and Thomas; grandchildren: James, Emma, and Ava; mother: Clare Kennedy; sister and brother-in law: Joan and Daniel Aumack; sisters: Kathleen Piantanida, Dale Limongello, Lynn Kennedy; mother and father-in-law: Stanley and Bobbi Meckler; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Bruce and Carri Silverberg; and all of his beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Memorial will be held at Fiore Funeral Home at 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, New Jersey on the 29th of August, 2023 doors open 10 AM - 11 AM to greet the family, celebration of life will begin at 11:00 AM. Fran and her family will be receiving visitors at her home on Wednesday from 1pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mt. Sinai Hospital, Oral Cancer Foundation at https://oralcancerfoundation.org/, an organization Ken felt strongly about.
