Obituary for Judith E. Calandriello
Judith E. Calandriello, 72, of West Long Branch, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
She was born and lived in Jersey City until 1975, when she was married to Thomas. Judith also resided in Hackensack, River Edge, Clifton, Spring Lake, Roseland, and Long Branch before moving to West Long Branch.
She received a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City in 1971, and then furthered her studies in reading remediation and learning disabilities at Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York City. There she received two master of arts degrees, and a third master of education degree, earning her the title of Ed.M. Her teaching career began as a third-grade teacher in the Jersey City school system, followed by a position as a reading specialist for the Garfield school system, and a position as an LDTC in the New Providence School system. In addition to her teaching career, Judy was a successful businesswoman. She and her husband owned a Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Store in Westfield from 1981 to 1991.
Judy loved children, dogs, and the ocean. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in West End, Long Branch.
She was predeceased by her parents, Vincent, and Rose Fiore.
Surviving is her husband, Thomas; brother, John, and his wife Jane Fiore; 2 nephews and a niece, Vincent and his wife Andrea Fiore, Cecilia and her husband Kevin Devonshire and Anthony Fiore; 4 great-nephews, Vincent, Philip, Rocco, and John and her faithful companions, Abby and Suzie.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 9:30 am-11:30 am Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will follow at 12 noon at St. Michael’s Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
