Obituary for Joyce Klohn
Joyce Marie Klohn (nee Szumski), age 83, of Tinton Falls, NJ passed away on Aug.
9, 2023. Joyce was born in Trenton, NJ where she attended Holy Cross Grade
School until finishing 7th grade, when her family moved to Wildwood NJ, where
she graduated from St. Ann’s Grammar School and then Wildwood Catholic High
School. Joyce became a registered nurse after graduation from St. Francis Hospital
School of Nursing in Trenton where she worked for a time until returning to
Wildwood, working at Mercy Hospital in Sea Isle City. During this time, Joyce
became engaged and married her best friend and love of her life Kenneth. Once
married, she moved to West Long Branch NJ and stayed home to raise a family,
volunteering at St. Jerome School when her three children attended. As the
children grew and prepared for college, Joyce returned to nursing at Monmouth
Medical Center, and later to other areas: Admissions office at Monmouth College
(now Monmouth University), Medical Records Coding Dept. at Riverview Medical
Center and the Residential Dept. at the ARC of Monmouth. Joyce was a longtime
member of St. Jerome RC Church in West Long Branch; a member of the Rosary Altar
Society, and Eucharistic Minister. She and her husband moved to Seabrook Village
of Tinton Falls in 2013. Joyce was a member of the NARFE organization and the Art
Society of Monmouth County. She loved dancing with Ken, traveling, birding trips,
reading, Wii bowling, spending time with family and friends, and especially with
her granddaughters whom she dearly loved.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Frances and Stanley Szumski and her
brother Robert and niece Susan. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years
Kenneth, three cherished children and their families: daughter Karen and her
husband Richard Gorney, son Dr. Brian Klohn and his wife Robin, son Thom and his
wife Johanna, and cherished granddaughters Kaity Gorney (fiancé Christian
Courtney) Alexa Klohn, Brianna Klohn, sister-in-law Ursela Szumski, nephew David
Szumski, cousin Janice Tomlin and her husband Matt, beloved friend Dr. Ceil
Borden, several nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins.
Family and friends are invited for a visitation at Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township
NJ on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023 from 4pm – 7pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at
St. Jerome RC Church in West Long Branch on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to St. Jerome School
West Long Branch, or to the ARC of Monmouth. NJ.
