Obituary for John I Braun

On Saturday, March 20, 2021, John I. Braun, husband, father and loving grandfather passed away at the age of 73.

John was born November 28, 1947 in Long Branch, New Jersey to Henry and Norma (Smith) Braun. In 1968, John was drafted into the Vietnam War. He proudly served in the infantry becoming a combat engineer and a tunnel rat where he worked with the Green Beret. He served one tour in the Vietnam War and was in the United States Army Reserves until 1974. Soon, after his arrival home, John met his wife, Kathleen Morgan. They married in 1976 and raised their four children; Tabitha Miller (deceased), Belinda, Lisa and John. The family settled in Red Bank, New Jersey where John was a truck mechanic for Sysco Food Company.

John was the classic American man. He appreciated a good cup of coffee, a classic western movie, especially ones with John Wayne, building, fixing and racing cars around Asbury circuit and his Camel cigarettes. John loved playing the drums, like his father, Henry. Every chance he had, John put a big band record on and his children would dance while he played. John was a proud man who loved his country and his family. Later in life, he was a doting grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren. John loved nothing more than being on the floor playing games, watching cartoons, painting and building crafts with them.

John is preceded in death by his father, Henry, his mother, Norma and his daughter, Tabitha. He is survived by his wife, Kathy and his children; Belinda Welton, Lisa Hall and John Braun. His loving grandchildren; Daniel, Misty, Brittany, Hunter, Ella, Caroline and Jack. Along with his seven great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his siblings; Keith, Anna and Diane with a nephew and several nieces.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ followed by a funeral service at 4 PM. Interment services will take place on Monday March 29, at 1:45 PM at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown,NJ.
