Obituary for Jimmy Panas

Jimmy Panas, 82, of Oakhurst, Ocean Township, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, January 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Thana, Tripoli, Greece, he emigrated to Red Bank in 1956. After working with relatives in the candy making and restaurant business in Asbury Park, he became co-owner with his brother-in-law, Peter Panas of the Continental Restaurant in Lakewood from 1977 until the restaurant was sold in 2002. He was also co-owner of Windows on the Bay Restaurant in Bayville.

Mr. Panas was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Asbury Park and Ocean Township for over 50 years. He enjoyed good food and trips to Atlantic City and Greece with family and friends. He will be remembered for his endless dedication to his family, his wise counsel and sage advice, and his ability to make people smile and laugh which endeared him to all.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Angela; his sons, Peter Panas of Garden City, NY and George Panas of Medford, NJ; his daughters-in-law, Roula and Emily Panas; his 4 granddaughters; and his brothers, George Panas of Oakhurst and Nick Panas of Brick.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 7-9 pm Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral service 11 am Friday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue in Ocean. Burial will follow at St. George Greek Orthodox Church Cemetery in Neptune. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
