James J. Murphy, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 15, 2022. He was born June 17, 1928 in Brooklyn to William and Mary Murphy. Early in his working career he was employed in New York City business districts delivering packages as well as a Wall Street runner. He met his soon to be wife Janet (since deceased) while working in New York. They moved from Brooklyn to Valley Stream, Long Island to start and raise a family.
Jim also had a fondness for steam trains and “gadgets” (cameras, radios, etc.). His affinity for radios and other electronics eventually led him to a career in computer programming. He worked in that field for various companies including IBM, Coca Cola and the Dime Savings Bank. He also started his own computer business Micro Business Systems.
James was a family oriented, kind, decent and good-humored person who never had a bad word for anyone. He is survived by his two sons Jimmy (Jim) and Brian; four grandsons - Matthew, Christian, Aidan and Ryan; and one great-grandson Johnathan James Murphy.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 8:45 am to 10 am on Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 am Friday at the Roman Catholic Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
