James J. Florio, 64, aka Pop-Pop, Pops or Chivato, of Eatontown, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at home.
Jimmy had one of the biggest and loving hearts we have ever seen. He was a man who didn't understand the meaning of the word NO, especially when it came to helping others. He was a man of few words (mostly grunts), but many laughs. His undeniable kindness, upfrontness, giving nature and sense of humor will forever touch our hearts, where he will always be. To know Big Jim was to love him and WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU DAD and we look forward to the day we're together again.

He was born in Hoboken and raised in Middletown. He wrestled for Middletown North going 17-1 in his senior year. After high school, he and his brothers opened a sub shop in Middletown. He then served for the Middletown Police Department for 2 years before finally moving on to his career of what he was born to do, a mason. He was as hard and as honest of a worker as you will ever find and he always did whatever it took to provide for his family. He could lay over 400 blocks or 550 brick in a day. He often wondered if you stacked up all the work he had ever done, how high it would go. The answer is where he is now, “In Heaven,” fishing and waiting for us.
He was a member of Relevant Life in Ocean Twp and attended Calvary Chapel in Old Bridge.

He was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Rose Florio and his brother, Matthew Florio. Surviving are his children, James Florio II, Nicole, Maria and Diana Florio and Angeline Johnson; 3 brothers, Leonard, Michael and Angelo Florio, Jr. and 2 sisters, Mary Walenta and Angela Rose Frattin and 7 grandchildren, Eve, Arielle, James, Jr., Gyonna, Shyohn, Bellah and Angelique. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. In lieu of flowers, donations to his family will be appreciated. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com
