Obituary for Gregory G. Meehan

Gregory Gabriel Meehan, 87, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held at the Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Avenue, Asbury Park, 2-6PM, Sunday, December 3. Funeral mass will be offered Monday at 10:30 at Holy Spirit Church, Asbury Park. Born to Joseph and Helen Meehan on May 30, 1930 in Jersey City, Greg lived most of his life in North Arlington before spending his last years in Asbury Park, NJ. Greg started his career with the Intercity Bus Company which became part of New Jersey Transit.  With great pride, he represented his fellow drivers in contract negotiations, grievances and arbitration issues as the Chairman of his United Transportation Union local for over twenty years.   He was predeceased by his wife of sixty one years, Constance Meehan, and leaves his five children; Colleen Meehan Borenstein, Suzanne Salzmann, Kerry-Ellen Dorio, Cynthia Meehan, Robert Meehan and his five grandchildren. He is survived by one sister, Judith Hughes. For his many loving nieces and nephews, Greg instituted “Thanks-ghetti Day”, an Italian food festival for his Irish-American family the day after Thanksgiving. In addition to being an avid history, NY Yankees and NY Giants and Jeopardy fan, Greg loved the ocean and had the pleasure of living out his final years down “The Jersey Shore”.
