Obituary for George M Peaff
George M. Peaff, 95, long-time resident of Oceanport, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
A graduate of Long Branch High School in 1945, George served in the Army for 1946 to 1947. He briefly worked as the locker room manager at Old Orchard Country Club and then worked as a letter carrier and distribution clerk at the Long Branch Post Office for 30 years.
After retirement from the post office in 1986, George served as an admissions cashier/gate attendant at Monmouth Park Race Track until 2019. His other pastime besides horse racing was golf, playing as a "scratch" golfer. He briefly played in golf's "doubles tour" in the early 1950s.
George was predeceased by his father John, his mother Katrina, his stepmother Mary, brother John, step brother Robert, and sister Irene.
He was devoted to his family and is survived by his beloved wife of 77 years, Helen, and two sons, George and Paul.
George’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the Northwest 6 medical staff at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, the entire staff of Allegria, Ocean Grove, and to neighbors, Mary and Tom Murphy for the loving care they have showed both Helen and George.
A brief visitation will be held on Friday, December 30 at 9 am at Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 101 Chelsea Ave, Long Branch, NJ, Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Wall Street, West Long Branch, NJ.
