Obituary for George E. Ferguson

George E. Ferguson, 85, of West Long Branch, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.
He was born in Long Branch and lived in Oakhurst, Pennsylvania and Oceanport before moving to West Long Branch.

He was a graduate of Long Branch High School in 1953 and was a 6-letter athlete as well as co-captaining the football team. He then served in the US Army. Among his many accomplishments was playing pro baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League affiliates and was inducted into the Long Branch Athletic Hall Of Fame in 1975.

He was a clerk at the Long Branch Post Office for 30 years before retiring in 1990 and you could find him any day at Hungry Hobo in West Long Branch

He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy in 2010; his parents, Harry and Catherine Ferguson and a brother, Harry Ferguson.

Surviving are his children, Barry and his wife Marina Ferguson, Bruce Ferguson and Lynn Ferguson; Step-daughters Debra Lorentson Mueller (nee Pentz) and her husband Don Mueller, Susan Pentz Fisher and her husband Stephen Fisher; grandchildren, Sean Ferguson, Jamie Ferguson, Cassandra Ferguson, Alicia Lorentson Zuniga (Carlos), Erica Lorentson Barber (Tim), Stephen Fisher Jr., Caitlin Fisher, Colleen Fisher; great-granddaughter Loren Elyse Barber.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 11 am to 12:30 pm Monday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. Online condolences may be expressed through www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
