Obituary for Frank Peloso, Jr.

It is with great sadness that the family of Frank R. Peloso, Jr., 91, announces the passing of his life on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at his home in Oceanport with grace and dignity, surrounded by loved ones. Prolonged use of the blood thinner contributed to the MDS which eventually took his life.

Frank (Junior as he was known to his family) was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 3, 1930 to Francesco Antonio Peloso and Anunziata Rulli. He grew up in North Newark on N. 13th Street with older siblings, Michael, Vincent and Gloria and younger brother, Arthur.

Frank attended First Avenue Elementary School and Barringer High School, where he was a varsity three-letter man, playing baseball, football and basketball.

He continued his love and talent for basketball in college and played for Seton Hall University while studying to become a teacher and coach.

Barringer High School is where he met the love of his life, Mildred “Merle” Russomano and they were married on December 18, 1955 at St. Francis Xavier church in Newark. They enjoyed a 63 year marriage before Merle’s passing in January, 2018.

An army veteran of the Korean War, Frank was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany where he also enjoyed playing basketball on the company team. He went on to coach a variety of sports and teach in the Newark Public Schools system. He enjoyed many years at East Side High School as a Vice-Principal and finished up his career in School Administration at West Side High School in 1997.
