Obituary for Fenton K Hudson

Fenton Kerr Hudson, 89 Of Ocean Twp., NJ passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 with his wife Barbara and cousin Fred at his side.

Fenton was born on November 25, 1931 in Illinois and grew up in Riverside, near Chicago.

From August 1949 to May 1953 he attended Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana studying Mechanical Engineering and completing ROTC training. Graduating at the tag end of the Korean War, expecting to go immediately into the Army, and as the war was winding down the Army said he could show up anytime before the end of the year to enter Ordinance School at Aberdeen, Maryland.

After leaving the Army, He found a job as a field service engineer and then as a combination customer training center instructor and field engineer with the Electro Motive division of General Motors who manufactured diesel electric locomotives in Lagrange. He. Left EMD to attend Harvard Business School for two years graduating in June 1960 and then took a job with Electronic Associates in West Long Branch, first in the contracts department and then in the planning department, eventually becoming planning manager and also in charge of investor relations.

After leaving EAI, he worked initially with small technical companies by assisting them in the financial and business planning fields. He also started a small publishing business concentrating on transportation subjects and mainly on railroads, which was a life-long interest. Fenton had met Barbara at a wedding of one of his Harvard classmates who had married a Belmar girl, and they were married in 1966 in New York City where they had a weekend apartment, finally coming to settle in Ocean Twp. in 1968.

Sometime in the early ‘70’s he and his wife had become members of the Ocean Twp. Environmental Commission and also he applied to Ocean Twp. for the position of Township Manager, a position he held for about 4 years. After that he returned to his small publishing and consulting businesses, retired from his political interests and continued to remain interested in the council meetings and township activities. A future Memorial Service is expected to take place at the Elberon Memorial Church with the dates and times to be announced.
