Obituary for Elvira V Woolley

Elvira (Vera) Woolley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2023, at the age of 94. Born Elvira Viscido on October 9, 1928, in Newark, Vera moved to Long Branch at the age of 2 with her mother and brother (Anthony Viscido) after the passing of her father.
Vera graduated from Long Branch High School and worked at Fort Monmouth where she met her husband, Raymond Woolley, they married and had 2 children. Ray passed away in 1995. Vera is survived by her daughters Debra Woolley of Long Beach, NY and Doreen Woolley Beam and her husband Richard Beam of Tinton Falls, NJ.
Vera was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Clotilda Viscido, her brother Anthony and his wife Josephine and their daughter JoAnn Viscido. Vera is survived by her niece, Diane Viscido.
She was a natural force, drawing people to her with her smile and beautiful blue eyes. She loved to dance, travel, and gather family and friends around her table on holidays. She was generous in spirit and charitable in giving. Her love of the beaches from Long Branch to Asbury Park, her dedication to the Women’s Axillary of the Wanamassa Fire Company, and her passion for the game of Maj Jong kept her busy and made her happy.
Vera’s love of family is what she will be remembered by most of all. Family included those extraordinary women who became more like sisters and extends to their children and grandchildren as well as her extensive network of cousins and their families. She will be remembered most lovingly by all.
Per Vera’s wishes, there will be no visitation prior to the church service at St. Michael’s in Long Branch on Tuesday, February 21st, 2023 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her name would honor her.
