Obituary for Elizabeth B Gibbons
ELIZABETH B. GIBBONS (Betty)
Betty Gibbons, died on August 19, 2022 in Tinton Falls, N.J. She was born in East Orange, N.J. and lived most of her life in Ohio and New Jersey. A graduate of Oberlin College and Methodist Theological School, Betty’s first ministry was as Director of Christian Education in Granville, Ohio. After ordination, she ministered in Hightstown, N.J. and served as senior pastor in Browns Mills, N.J. and Jackson, N.J. Betty’s strong faith in God acted as a powerful force that called many people to join her in a life of service to others. She especially enjoyed leading her church’s youth groups on mission service trips. Betty had an adventurous spirit and a lifelong love of sports, especially sailing, tennis and boogie boarding.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura of Seattle, Wash.; three sons, Ken of Shrewsbury, Phil of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Alan of Orange, Conn., and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, David, in 2009 and her grandson, Jacob Gibbons-Morales in 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27 at Oakhurst United Methodist Church, 103 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, New Jersey 07755. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oakhurst church or to Fulfill NJ: Foodbank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties at https://fulfillnj.org/.
